Ich hatte zwar meinen Regenschutz dabei, da ich aber auf einem Brett zu malen begann, musste ich nach der Skizze im Touristenladen unterstehen. Besten Dank übrigens für die Erlaubnis. Nachträglich habe ich den Himmel aufgehellt. Rechts im Himmel sieht man noch die alte Fassung wo Regentropfen mithalfen.

I had my rain protection with me, but since I started on a board, I had to find shelter in the Touristshop after the sketch. Thanks for the permission. Additionally I brightened the sky behind Castle Chillon. On the right you can still see it in its old version where raindrops helped with.

Einmal mehr stehe ich ohne Licht da! Diesmal waren die Batterien total unten in meiner Stirnlampe. Wenigstens dam das Bild schön hell und farbenfroh. Jene, die mich auf der Terasse de Bonstetten getroffen haben, schreibt bitte etwas ins Gästebuch - das gilt für alle die mich irgendwo treffen. Danke, dass ihr Euch Zeit nehmt. Dort auf dem Genfersee sieht man ein Kursschiff, schön beleuchtet in der Dämmerung.

Once more I am left without light! This time the batteries were totally down on my headlight. At least the picture came out bright and cheerful. Those who met me there on the Terrace of Bonstetten, please write something in my guestbook - that goes to all people who meet me somewhere. I appreciate your time and entries. There on the lake was a boat so beautifully lit in the dusk.

Als ich noch kleiner war und Lego spielte, da mochte ich ganz besonders die Flaggen aller Nationen und natürlich die Kantonswappen. Dies hier ist ein erster Versuch, ein Schweizer Wappen etwas zum Leben zu erwecken. Das ist also der Heilige Fridolin, mit Stab und Buch unterwegs.

When I was littler and played Lego, I like the flags of all nations and also the Swiss canton's coats of arms. This here is an attempt, to liven up a coat of arms. This is Saint Fridolin from canton Glarus with staff and book on his way.

This is a view into the valley which canton Glarus mostly is.
Today you get the picture earlier than usual. This evening, I'm going to Glarus to André. We'll be coming back on Saturday.
(This way I can offer all my 'helpful' comments while he's painting.)

Das friedliche Klöntal.

The peaceful Klön Valley.

Zum Alpabzug in Elm blieb ich nicht in Glarus. Dafür fand ich diese Treicheln für heute ein passendes Stilleben. Sie gehören dem Präsidenten des Treichler Clubs im Entlebuch, vielen Dank!
Das Bild ist sehr dunkel geraten. An einem hellen Ort, macht es sich aber sehr gut..

For the driving of the cattle down from the alps above Elm, I did not stay. As the cows are driven down, they carry large cowbells (Triechler) around their necks, therefore this still-life fits. They belong to the President of the Triechler Club in Entlebuch, many thanks! These big cowbells are also carried by men as a loud, traditional music spectacle. During this time of year, the cows are driven down from the Alpine meadows.
The painting is rather dark, but looks good at a well-lit spot.

Besten Dank für die Tipps, die mir die Einwohner von Linthtal gegeben haben. Schlussendlich malte ich dann das 'Erstbeste', den Eingang zum Dorf vom Bahnhof her.

Thanks for the clues that the citizens of Linth Valley have given me. Finally, I painted the first best, the entrance to the town coming from the train-station.

Ich weiss nicht wie der kleine Park heisst, aber es ist ein schöner Ort gleich beim Bahnhof von Glarus. Der Brunnen gefiel mir im Abendlicht.

I don't know what the little park is called, but it's a nice place right at the train station of Glarus. I liked the fountain in the evening light.

Dieser tolle Herbstbaum steht auf dem "Baumgarten", gleich neben dem Bahnhof. Sein Grün ist leider nicht seins, sondern das einer Kletterpflanze. Ich finde es schade um den Obstbaum.

This nice autumn tree is standing on the "Baumgarten" field, right beside the train station. His green isn't his but the green of a vine. I find it a pity for this fruit-tree.

Ich hoffe, die Walliser sind mir nicht böse, dass ich ihr Wappen gekippt habe! Der Untertitel des Bildes könnte lauten: 'Ein Spaziergang an der Rhone'.

I hope the people in Wallis aren't cross with me, when I tip their coat of arms! The subtitle of this picture could be: 'A walk along the Rhone River'.

Aigle ist bekannt für Sein Schloss und Seinen Wein. Ich dachte, so könne ich im Sujet nicht falsch liegen. Diese Strasse mit den hohen Weinberg-mauern, aber auch die dunstigen Hügel führten mich zur Komposition dieses Bildes.

Aigle is well-known for its castle and wine. I thought, with this painting, that the subject could not be better. This street, with the high walls of the vinyard and the hazy hills, guided me to the composition in the painting.

Gerade Rechtzeitig zum Sonnenuntergang, kam ich in Sion an. Ich hatte für das Bild demenstprechend wenig Zeit. Spontan lief ich ins Industriequartier und platzierte mich neben einem Schrebergarten. Von einem wackeren Gärtner erfuhr ich, dass dieser Ort schon von anderen Touristen als belibete Aussicht auf das Schloss Valère heimgesucht wurde. Glück gehabt!

I arrived in Sion just in time for the sunset. Thus, I had little time for this painting. Spontaneously, I walked into the Industry zone and placed myself by a Schrebergarden. (A small garden plot one can rent, named after the Dr. Schreber who had the idea. Quite everyday here in Switzerland.). From a hearty gardener I learned that this place I'd chose was also selected by other tourists, as a favorite lookout point for the old monastary on the hill, Castle Valère. Lucky again!

Wieder einmal ein Bild, wo ich etwas länger Zeit dafür hatte. Jedoch brauche ich für kein Bild solange, dass das Essen danach nicht mehr geniessbar wäre. Mmmh.... ich wäre immer hungrig, hinge dieses Bild bei uns.

Once again here is a painting I spent a little more time than usual with. However, I took so long for the painting, that the food was afterwards not so tasty. Mmmh... I would always become hungry if this picture was hung up on our wall.

From Angelika: Rösti is--as my particular US heritage names it--Hashbrowns. Sometimes the shredded potatoe is in a patty, sometimes loose like here. He painted the egg yolk's color extra-thick so that it also has a certain roundness in reality, too.

Wieder einmal bleibe ich auf halbem Weg meines Ausflugs stehen. Ich steige aus, statt um. Hier in Sembrancher, nur ein paar Meter vom Bahnhof entfernt steht schon lange ein Berg namens Catogne. Das habe ich von einer ortsansässigen Familie herausgefunden, die gerade ihren Garten für den Winter vorbereiteten. Es war idyllisch: Ich und die Grossmutter schauten erstaunt zu, wie ihr Enkel enthusiastisch mit einer grossen Hacke in die Herbst-blumen haute. Als ich auf den Zug zurück wartete, sah ich die beiden Brüder auf der Ladfläche des Lieferwagens, inmitten des Unkrauts, lauthals ein Lied singen. Es ist doch toll, seine Energie so loszuwerden!

Yet again I made a pause halfway through my trip. I stepped out of the train, and not into the second. Hier in Sembrancher, only a few meters from the train station, there is a long-standing mountain named Catogne. I found this out from a local family, which was in the process of preparing their garden for the winter. It was idyllic: the grandmother and I watched in astonishment at how her grandchild hacked--with a large hatchet--the autumn flowers. When waited on the train back, I saw the two brothers on the bed of their truck, amidst the weeds, singing at the top of their voices. It is fantastic to use extra energy in such a way!

Das Amphitheater in Martigny ist eine gut erhaltene römische Ruine. Ich war gerade noch rechtzeitig hier für das Abendlicht.

The ampitheater in Martingny is a well-preserved Roman ruin. I was just in time for the warm light of the evening.

Sion hat einige dieser tollen Unterführungen unter den Strassenkreuzungen. Ich wünschte, der Brunnen in der Mitte wäre gefüllt und seine Lichter an gewesen. Hinten sieht man einen Kiosk stand und links von mir ein feines, kleines, griechisches Restaurant das köstliches Essen zubereitet. Konnten Sie es erraten - es war gerade Mittag, als ich mit dem Bild fertig wurde.

Sion has a couple of those cool underground passages beneath crossroads. I wished the fountain in the middle was filled and its lights on. In the back one can see a kiosk and to the left of me you see a very fine little greek restaurant that makes fabulous foods. Can you guess - it was just lunch time when I was finished with the picture.

Wenige Busminuten von Sion entfernt bergwärts, steht dieses einzigartige Naturspektakel. Beachtlich ist auch der Tunnelbau, der davor nicht halt macht! Schade haben Besucher nicht mehr Platz als einen halben Meter an dieser Strasse. Die schweren Lastwagen waren fürchterlich laut und windig.

Few bus minutes away uphill, this unique natural wonder stands. Remarkable is also the tunnel not making halt from it! Unfortunately visitors don't have more space than a meter on this street. The heavy trucks were terribly loud and windy.

Da ich nächste Woche einmal ab Montag etwas ferner gehen möchte, stieg ich gestern für nur ein Bild in meinen Lieblingszug, direkt von Luzern nach Rapperswil. Dort tat sich für mich kurz der Himmel auf, und dann ging ich wieder. Wie praktisch! Nach etwa 10 Minuten hatte eine Skizze von der Skyline, wechselte dann aber kurzerhand das Papier, weil ich zu wenig Himmel hatte. Das zweite wurde es dafür frischer, und ehe ich mich fragte, was ich noch einfügen sollte, kam der Regen. Dieser zwang mich zur Heimfahrt, auf der ich dem Bild den letzten Schliff gab. Während dem Malen traf ich noch einen netten Deutschen. Ich hoffe er wurde auf seinem langen Spaziergang nach Pfäffikon nicht allzusehr verregnet.

Because I want to go farther on Monday, for just one picture I stepped into my favorite train line, direct from Luzern to Rapperswil in canton St. Gallen. The sky opened shortly for me, then I went again. How practical that was. After 10 minutes I had a sketch of the skyline, and without further ado, changed papers because I did not have enough of the sky. The second time it was fresher. Just when I asked myself what was missing on the picture, the rain forced me to take the train home, on which I gave the picture the last polish. During the painting I met a nice man from Germany. I hope he didn't get rained upon too much on his long walk to Pfäffikon.

Die Höllgrotten in Baar sind zum staunen. Dieser Abschnitt hier wird Zauberschloss genannt.Eine Frau sagte beim vorbeigehen, sie sähen himmlisch aus. Es hat wirklich viele verschiedene tolle, uralte Gebilde, die wie Pudding oder Brombeeren aussehen aber steinhart sind.

The Hell-Grottos in Baar are really to be amazed by. This cavern here is called Magic Castle. One woman said as she walked by, that it looked heavenly. The grotto really has many cool, ancient stone formations that look like pudding or raspberries, but are 'stone'-hard in reality.

Diese zwei Kinder nehmen sich die Freiheit, diese Hausmauer mit zu dekorieren - vorbildlich mit Kreide. So hat sich mir das Graubündner Wappen bei längerer Betrachtung eröffnet. Angelika hat mir die Kinder und den Steinbock vorgezeichnet.

These two kids take the liberty to decorate this housewall - ideally with chalk. This is what the cantonal coat of arms of Graubünden inspired me to. Angelika drew the children and the mountain ibex for me.

Im Wintersport Museum kann man viele Alte und Uralte Davoser Schlitten bestauenen. Diesen hier fand ich besonders elegant. Er war auch das Älteste Modell der Reihe.

In the winter sport museum one can appreciate many old and ancient sleds from Davos. This one I found especially elegant. It was also the oldest model in the row.

In dieser Vollmondnacht, leuchtete (vor Tagen) leuchtete der Schnee auf den Gipfeln um Klosters, wo meine Unterkunft war. Ich versuchte dies simpel wiederzugeben.

Dieser schöne Aussichtspunkt (Sackgasse) ist nur ein paar Minuten weit vom Bahnhof Filisur entfernt. Auf den Fotos sieht das ganze wie eine Modelleisenbahn aus. Einige Passagiere sahen uns sogar und winkten zurück.

This nice lookout point to the Landwasser Viaduct is only a few minutes away from the train station Filisur. On the photos the whole looks like a model train layout. Some passengers even saw us and returned our waving.

Wir hielten Ausschau nach einem schneebedeckten Berg, im Zug nach Scuol. Dieser Berg liegt direkt gegenüber vom Dorf Guarda. Zu ihm zog es mich zurück, als wir in Scuol ankamen. Ich malte Ihn gleich vom Bahnhof aus, da die Sonne und diese Wolke so günstig standen. Direkt in die Sonne hinter dem Nebel zu schauen hat mir natürlich komische Farben vorgezeigt.

In the train to Scuol we watched for a snow-covered mountain.This mountain, Piz Giarsinom, is directly across from the village of Guarda. When we arrived in Scuol, this is where it pulled me back to. I painted it right from the train station, because the sun and this cloud sat there so fittingly. Of course, to stare directly into the sun behind the fog presented very strange colors to me.
