#000 Das Rütli in Erwartung

Dieses Bild zeigt die Rütliwiese (Kanton Uri) in Erwartung auf der diesjährige umstrittene Nationalfeiertag am 1. August, 2007. Ich malte dieses Bild, weil es der Grundungsort der Schweiz ist - ein guter Startpunkt für meine Reise! Hier haben sich Vertreter der Kantone Uri, Schwyz, und Unterwalden getroffen und eine Freundschaft geschworen, die später als Confederation Helvetica - die Schweiz - bekannt wurde.
Dieses Bild besteht aus zwei Gemälden im gleichen Rahmen. Der Spalt in der Mitte wird durch die Farbdifferenz der zwei aneinanderfolgenden Tagen hervorgehoben.
Ausnahmsweise kommt dieses Bild in diesem von mir handgemachten Rahmen. Obwohl es bessere Beispiele von Schweizer Präzision gibt, wurde er mit Liebe und Sorgfalt gefertigt, passend zum Stil. Der Preis bezieht sich auf beide Bilder und den Rahmen.

Es ist auch möglich, das Bild ohne Rahmen aufzuhängen, oder innerhalb des Rahmens beliebig anzuordnen. (Siehe links.)

The picture shows the Rütli meadow (Kanton of Uri) in expectation of this years disputed National Celebration on August 1st 2007. I painted this picture because this is considered the birthplace of Switzerland, a good place for me to start! Here in 1291, representatives from the cantons Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden met and promised each other a friendship that would later become the Helvetic Confederation, Switzerland.
This picture is made of two paintings in the same frame. The split in the middle is also emphasised by the color difference from the two different days I painted them on.
As an exception, this picture comes to you with a wooden frame, handmade by me, the artist. Even if it doesn't represent Swiss precision, it is done with love and care, and matches the style of the painting. The price refers to the 2 pictures incl. the frame.

It is also possible to hang up the picture without a frame, or in any direction within the frame (see to the left).

Dies ist der Abend vom 1. August (Bundesfeiertag) am Vierwaldstättersee. Es ist einer unserer Lieblingsaussichtspunkte. Er ist nahe genug, dass wir ihn mit dem Fahrrad erreichen können. Ich möchte meine ersten Bilder in meiner Umgebung malen, falls sich noch Schwierigkeiten zeigen. Diesmal war es wohl das Licht, das mir gegen Abend fehlte.
Das Bild zeigt einige Höhenfeuer, die auf den Berggipfeln und Anhöhen entzündet werden. Diese sollen an die brennenden Burgen nach der Befreiung aus der Knechtschaft erinnern. Das habe ich erst heute auf Wikipedia gelesen, ups.

This is the evening of August 1st (Switzerland's National Day) on the Vierwaldstätter lake. It is one of our favorite lookout points. It's close enough that we can reach it by bicycle. I wanted to paint my first picture in the area, in case problems arose. This time it was the flashlights, that proved inadequate when the night came.
The picture shows many "Höhenfeuer", or Height-fires, that are lit on mountaintops and hills on this day. These are to recall the liberation from servitude by representing the burning castles. Oops, I never recalled that until I read it in Wikipedia today.

Ich bin froh, habe ich das Panorama am Abend gemalt, die Nacht war wirklich sehr schwarz - ausser dem Feuer.
I am glad that I painted the panorama in the late afternoon--the night was really pitch black--except for the fire.

Wo sind all die Autos? Links unten sieht man den Autotunneleingang. Rechts unten stehen die Autos an der Ampel. Dies ermöglicht die stete Fahrt der Autos durch den Tunnel. Das Bild zeigt auch den Zugtunnel. Ich wollte hier einmal die Lage des Gotthard-Tunnels verdeutlichen.

In the lower left, one sees the tunnel entrances. In the lower right are the cars, trucks, buses, campers, tractor-trailers, and more. They wait before a stoplight. This prevents congestion in the tunnels. (On the radio we sometimes hear of 2 to 10 kilometers of vehicles waiting before the tunnel entrances!)
This picture also shows the train tunnel (center). I want to show the geography around the south entrance to the Gotthard tunnel with this painting.

Das zweite Bild neben dem Bahnhof Airolo, die Autos, Camping-Fahrzeuge und Lastwagen warten im Stau vor dem Lichtsignal.

The second painting was done by the Airolo train station. The cars, campers, and tractor-trailers wait in a kilometers long line before the stoplight.

Eine Schweizer z'Morge Tradition. Wohl nicht die älteste, aber eine feine. Einige Restaurants bieten Kaffee und Gipfeli für 5 Franken an. Diese zwei hier sind teuerer, dafür darf man sie jeden Tag anschauen!

A Swiss breakfast Tradition, perhaps not the oldest one, but a tasty one. In some restaurants, you get a coffee and croissant for 5 Francs. This here is more expensive, but you get to look at it every day!

Das Bild zeigt die Autobrücke über die Schöllenenschlucht. Ich stehe auf der sogennanten Teufelsbrücke, bennant nach einer alten Schweizer Sage.

This painting shows the motorists' bridge over the Schöllenen ravine. I stand on the so-called "Devil's Bridge", so named because of an old Swiss tale.

According to the tale, the folk in Canton Uri were unable to finish the bridge. The devil offered his services, on the condition that the first soul to pass over the bridge was his. The folk of Uri agreed, and in only three days the bridge was built. The devil waited on the other side for his 'payment'...but the folk outwitted him, and first sent a goat over. Enraged, the devil would have destroyed the bridge, but an old woman scratched a cross onto the bridge. Confronted by the sign of the cross, the devil left.

Die Passstrasse über den Gotthard Berg ist die Alternative zum langen Tunnel. Sehr viele Autos, Motorräder, Camper, Busse, und Fahrräder(!) befahren diese kurvenreiche Strasse. Aber nicht alle haben so lange wie ich, Zeit die Aussicht zu geniessen.

The pass road over the Gotthard mountain is the alternative to the long tunnel. Many cars, motorcycles, campers, busses, and bicycles(!) use this incredibly curvy street. Not all motorists have as much time as I to enjoy the view, though.

Im Vierwaldstättersee bei Flüelen gibt es zwei Anlagen, die Sand und Kies vom Seeboden fördern. Vom Weg der Schweiz aus sieht man sie besonders gut. In der Ferne sieht man Isleten. Es war windig, immer wieder drohte Regen. Während der ersten Stunde, schliefen eine Schwanenmutter und ihre vier Kinder neben mir.

In the Vierwaldstätter Lake by Flüelen there are two facilities that mine sand and gravel from the lake bottom. From The Swiss Path--a walking trail through the center of Switzerland--one can see these constructions well. In the distance one can see the town of Isleten. It was windy, and threatened rain repeatedly. During the first hour, a swan mother and her four cygnets slept next to me.

Angelika begleitete mich in diesen ersten Tagen. Da es regnete, fuhren wir nicht mit dem Bus auf die Göschener Alp zum Stausee, sondern gingen zum Kraftwerk in Göschenen. Wir erhielten eine faszinierende Führung durch das Wasserkraftwerk durch Herr Epp. Es war sehr interessant, etwas über die Stromerzeugung zu erfahren. Nach der sieben Kilometer Leitung durch den Berg wird das Wasser mit hohem Druck auf die Turbinen geschossen, zwei Etagen unter dieser. Eine Etage unterhalb befindet sich der Generator Raum, der noch lauter ist. Dieser Raum, der Maschinensaal, beherbergt die Spitzen der 6 verschiedenartigen Generatoren. Angelika accompanied me in these first few days. Since it was raining, we didn't take the bus up to Göschener Alp, to the dam, but went to the power plant. We were given a fascinating tour of the hydroelectric power plant by the very informative Mr. Epp. It was interesting to see how electricity is produced in this (very noisy) plant. After a 7-kilometer pipeline from the Dammaglacier dam, the water is shot at a very high pressure into the turbines, two floors below this one. One floor below is the generator room, which is even noisier. This room, the Machine Hall, houses the tops of the six generators. It is very large, 20 meters across, 30 meters tall, and 120 meters long.

In der alten Kirche von Flüelen sind derzeit grosse Kristalle ausgestellt. Die teils metergrossen Edelsteine sind schön beleuchtet und haben mir zu ebenso schillernden Farben verholfen. Leider war es sehr dunkel, und meine Lampen sind immer noch nicht genug stark.
Ich möchte das Bild noch nachbearbeiten, daher ist es noch unverkäuflich. Anfragen nehme ich aber gerne entgegen.

In the old church of Flüelen, giant crystals are on display. The stones, some measuring over three feet in size, were artfully illuminated with spotlights. The refractions I saw inspired me to brilliant colors. Unfortunately, it was dark otherwise, and I still should find better lamps. I would like to edit the picture again, this is why it's unsellable. However I'd appreciate your offer.

An einem heissen Tag wie diesem kann ich zwischen dem Regenschirm und einer Mütze wählen. Ich nahm diesmal die Mütze, weil der Regenschirm sich in den Dornen der Brombeeren verfing. Leider versteckte sich die Sonne hinter zwei Tannen, so dass ich die Glanzlichter auf den Beeren aus dem Gedächtnis malen musste.

On a hot, sunny day like this I have the choice between an umbrella or a baseball cap. I chose the cap this time, because the umbrella got caught on the thorns of the blackberries. Unfortunately the sun hid behind two pinetrees after a while, so that I had to paint the berries' highlights from memory.

Viele Autos überquerten heute diesen Platz, aber ich konnte mich für keines entscheiden. Also malte ich die geparkten. Einige Leute haben mir Glück gewünscht, sogar aus ihren Autos. Vielen Dank Euch und allen freundlichen Passanten. Ganz überraschend traf mich meine Tante und später kam mein Onkel dazu! Wie schön... damit kann ich nicht in allen Kantonen rechnen.
Wieder einmal begann es vom Himmel zu tropfen, gerade als ich fertig war. Aber eben, wenn man den Regenschirm daheim lässt, käme es regnen. Dabei wäre ich um jedes gramm froh, das zuhause bliebe.

Many cars crossed this place today, but I couldn't decide for one. So I just painted the parked ones.
Some people wished me luck, even from out of their cars. Thanks to you and all the friendly bypassers.
Out of the blue, my aunt met me and later my uncle joined us. How nice! I can't count on that in every canton.
Once again it started to drop from the sky just when I was finished. But surely, if I had left the umbrella at home, it would have rained. And here I'd be glad about every gram that stayed at home.

Ich wählte hiermit ein bekanntes Malsujet: Der Lauerzersee mit der Insel Schwanau, Steinen links und die Mythen Berge rechts im Hintergrund. Ich fing um 7:30 morgens an zu malen, eine halbe Stunde lang hatte ich eine wunderschöne Szene vor mir. Zuerst ein Lichtsstrahl, dann ein anderer, von der Sonne die über den kleinen Mythen kletterte. Ich bin sehr froh und dankbar darüber, wie das Bild herausgekommen ist.

Es hat ein Restaurant, einen Turm und eine Kapelle auf der Insel. Wenn Sie auf die Insel gelangen möchten, läuten Sie einfach die Glocke und haben Sie etwas Geduld, der Fährenmann wird Sie dann abholen.

Als ich mit malen fertig war, schwammen zwei Schwäne vom anderen Seeufer zu mir herüber.

Herewith I chose a very famous painting subject: It is the beautiful Lauerz Lake with Island Schwanau, Steinen in the back left and the Mythen mountains in the back right. I started painting at 7:30 in the morning, for a half hour I had a terrific looking scenery in front of me. First one ray of light, then the other, as the sun climbed up behind the small "Mythen". I very glad and thankful about how the picture turned out.

There's a restaurant, a tower and a chapel on the Island. If you want to go over you can ring the bell and be patient. The ferry man (on the right) will then come pick you up.

When I was finished, two swans swam over from the other shore.

Vor ein paar Monaten wurden wir von fernen Verwandten zu einem Besuch eingeladen. Mit einem Bild liess sich die Reise bestens verbinden! Wir wurden von meinem Grossonkel herzlich empfangen. Die Aussicht auf ihrer Terasse war herrlich. Das Bild malte ich dann aus dem Treppenhaus.

Irgendwie sieht dieses Bild doch trickfilmartig aus. Manchmal weigere ich mich, die Farben zu malen, die ich sehe, und male sie wie ich sie gerne hätte. Möchte ich wirklich in einer so kitschigen Welt leben?
Ganz links ist die Kirche Muotathal, in der Mitte das Frauenkloster.

A few months ago we got invited to coffee by distant relatives. With a picture, this voyage was combined well! We were heartely welcomed by my great-uncle and his wife. The view on their balcony was splendid. The picture I painted in the stairwell.

Somehow it looks cartoony. Sometimes I seem to refuse to paint the colors I see and paint them as I'd like them to be. Would I like to live in such a kitshy world?
To the very right you can see the church of Muotathal and in the middle the Monastery.

Als erstes bin ich eine Erklärung schuldig. Heute ist ziemlich in der ganzen Nordschweiz Regenwetter, wie konnte ich dieses Bild malen? Ich habe es gestern gemalt. Ich versuche, wenn möglich vorauszumalen. Ich tue das nicht, um dem sogenannt schlechten Wetter auszuweichen, sondern nur, um nahegelegene Orte in eine Reise zu verbinden. Ich bin sogar froh um jedes Wetter, Regenwetter wie Nebel, denn nur an sonnigen Tagen zu malen wäre wirklich langweilig.

Viele meiner Bekannten sagten: Die Mythen? Die sehen doch nur von Schwyz aus wie die Mythen, von hinten erkennt man sie garnicht. Da fragte ich mich, was denn all die Leute dachten, die 'hinter' den Mythen lebten. Dachten die nicht auch, sie lebten vor den Mythen? Ich wollte mit diesem Bild die 'Hinterseite' etwas populärer machen. Ich finde, die beiden Berge sehen erstaunlich ähnlich aus wie von vorne. Sehen Sie dazu meine Bilde Nr. 014, Nr. 013, und das Start Bild 000.

First I owe an explaination (to people in Switzerland). Today it has rained in practically the entire region north of the Alps, thus causing one to question how I could have painted this picture. I painted it yesterday. I try when reasonable, to paint the pictures one day in advance. I don't do this to dodge the 'bad' (rainy) weather, but rather to make what would be two short trips into one long trip. I glad for every kind of weather--rain, snow, fog--because if I only painted on sunny days, it would soon become dull.

Many of the people I know say, "The Mythen mountains? They only look like the Mythen mountains from the Schwyz side. From behind--the Brunni side--one can't recognize them at all." Here I asked myself what the people who lived 'behind' the Mythen mountains thought. Did they not also think they lived 'in front' of the Mythen? I wanted to make with this painting the 'backside' a little more popular. I find the 'back' of the two mountains looks remarkably similar to the 'front'. Bestimmt einer der schönsten Skate Parks in der Schweiz, der Rollerpark Sattel. Da gibt es viel zum drüber springen, drüber fallen, runter- und drüberfahren. Meine Frau begleitete mich auf dieser Reise und fuhr mit den Inline-Skates und sprang auf dem Trampolin, während ich malte. Danach nahm ich eine Runde mit den Inline-Skates und merkte wie wacklig ich geworden bin, und wieviel es brauchte um mich in die Rampen zu stürzen.

Es gibt Kinder, die hier ihre Kickboards, ihre Skateboards oder ihre BMX (mis)brauchen. Der härteste Teil der Anlage ist wohl der Pool. Das härteste Teil deshalb, weil er Beton ist. Nicht viele wagen sich da rein. Unter dem Zelt hat es 2 Trampolin. Fast alle Kinder auf meinem Gemälde taten wirklich das, wie ich sie abbildete.

One of the nicest Skate Parks in Switzerland is the Rollerpark Sattel. There's a lot to jump over, fall over and drive down, over and under. My wife joined me on this trip and did the skating and jumping on the trampoline while I was painting.

Afterwards I took a lap with the Skates and found out how wobbly I have gotten, and how much it takes to drop into the ramps. There are kids who (mis)use their kick-boards here, skate-board and bmx! The hardest part of the course is the pool. It's hard because it's concrete. Not many dare to enter it. Under the tent there are two trampolines. Almost all the kids on my picture were actually there doing the depicted.

Ich durfte dieses Schwyzer-Örgeli in der Werkstatt eines Luzerner Musikladens malen. Wenn ich mich an den Laden erinnere, werde ich den Namen hier noch auflisten. Nach der Woche, in der ich dieses Bild malte, schloss der Laden für immer.
Viele der Sonntagsstilleben habe ich im Mai/Juni/Juli dieses Jahres gemalt, gleich nachdem ich die Idee für dieses Projekt hatte. So konnte ich in Schwung kommen und mir die vielen Sonntage freischaffen - ohne die ich es nicht gut schaffen könnte.

I was allowed to paint this Swiss-Accordeon in the workshop of a music store in Luzern. I'll post its name when I remember! After the week I painted the picture, the shop closed permanently.
Many of the Sunday still-lives I painted in May/June/July of this year, right after I had the idea for this project. This way I could get into the groove and clear the coming Sundays from work - without which it wouldn't be as possible to do this year.

Ich habe das Regenproblem immer noch nicht ganz im Griff. Ich versuche morgen unter einem Plastik-Überwurf alla Coiffeur zu malen. Ich baue auch eine Plastikschachtel für den Transport, im Regenwetter will die Farbe einfach nicht trocknen.

Das obere Bild habe ich auf dem Schnitzturm, dem Wahrzeichen von Stansstad gemalt. Der Regen stäubte von allen Seiten. Rechts sehen sie den Fuss von Pilatus, ganz links steht das Stanserhorn.
Das untere Bild habe ich zuhause ab Foto schwarzweiss gemalt und dann... ja, man sieht es ja.

10.Sept - Das original Bild ist verkauft worden, und die Tochter des Käufers hat ihre eigene Version gezeichnet.

I don't have the rain-problem solved entirely. Tomorrow I'll try painting under a barber-style plastic-coat. I'll also build a plastic box for transport, the painting's colors are reluctant to dry in the wet weather.

The upper picture shows the top of the Schnitzturm ("Slicetower"), the monument of Stansstad. The rain sprayed in from all angles. To the right you see Mt. Pilate's foot, on the very left the Stanserhorn.
The lower picture I painted black/white from a photo and then played with it, as you can see.

Sept. 10th - The original painting has been sold, and the daughter of the purchaser drew her own version.

Diese Stufen wurden in den Steinibach in Dallenwil nach den Unwettern eingebaut.
Während dem malen begann es zu regnen, aber diesmal hatte ich eine Art Schutzhülle. Sehr einengend war sie aber, muss noch verbessert werden. Am liebsten malte ich das schäumende Wasser.

These steps were built into the Steini-Creek in Dallenwil after the floodings. During painting it began to rain, but I had kind of a protection cover with me. It worked but was restrictive; has to be improved. I liked painting the foaming water best.

Ich habe dieses Bild von einer Foto gemalt, die ich gestern im Zug gemacht habe. Wenn ich Zeit finde, möchte ich es noch etwas verfeinern. Ich habe heute den ganzen Tag an einer Regen-Staffelei herumgebastelt, die es mir erlauben soll, Bilder auch an regnerischen Tagen zu malen. So kam ich gar nicht zum Haus raus. Ich hoffe, es wird sich auszahlen.

I have painted this picture of Mt. Pilate from a photo I took yesterday in the train by Hergiswil. I'd like to refine it when I find the time. Today I worked all day on a rain-easel, that should allow me to paint on rainy days. I didn't get out of the house. :( I hope it will pay off.

Endlich bin ich früh genug aufgestanden um auf das Stanserhorn zu fahren. Ich bin wirklich gerne hier oben. Ich wurde sogar sagen, es sei viel schöner auf dem bekannteren Pilatus! Vielleicht ändert sich meine Meinung einmal, wenn ich auf den Pilatus fahre. Als ich zu malen beginnen wollte, merkte ich, dass ich meine Pinsel nicht dabei hatte. Ich konnte es nicht glauben! Also malte ich mit meinem Zeigefinger. Als ich fertig war, und das Bild versorgte, fand ich das Pinseletui in der Zeichnungsmappe. Ich konnte es nicht glauben!!

Finally I got up early enough to ride up on the Stanserhorn. I really like it up there. I would even say, it is nicer up there than on the better-known Mt. Pilate! Perhaps my opinion will change, when I go to the top of Mt. Pilate. As I prepared myself for painting, I realized I didn't have my brushes with me. I couldn't believe it! So I fingerpainted this painting. When I finished and put the painting away, I found my paintbrush case in the portfolio. I couldn't believe it!

Da musste ich nochmal ein Bild malen, wenigstens ein kleines, von diesem lustigen Restaurant. Ein netter Wanderer und - ich nehme an - Seine Ehefrau, assen neben mir zu Mittag. Eines sagte er, dem ich hätte widersprechen sollen. "Jeder sieht es wieder anders". Wenn er meinte, jeder MALE es wieder anders, dann gebe ich ihm recht. Aber sehen tun wir's zum Glück noch alle ungefähr gleich. Rot ist rot und grün grün - die Unterschiede mal weggelassen. Aber Licht lässt sich messen, und sofern wir gesunde Augen haben erkennen wir, dass die Dinge der Welt für alle die gleichen sind.

Stanserhorn Restaurant
Here I had to paint another painting, at least a small one, of the odd-looking restaurant. A polite hiker and, I assumed, his wife, ate beside of me during lunch. He said something which I should have contradicted: "Everyone sees it differently." When he meant, everyone PAINTS it differently, then I agree he is correct. As for colors, though, we all see them, luckily, about the same. Red is red, and green is green--we leave away the finer differences in hue. Light lets itself be measured, and so long as one has healthy eyes, one realizes that the things in the world look pretty similar for everyone.

Spät am Nachmittag nahmen Angelika und ich das Schiff von Hergiswil nach Kehrsiten. Ich wollte etwas vom Bürgenstock malen. Der Hammetschwand Lift ist zur Zeit geschlossen, weil Teile des Felsenwegs von den Unwettern beschädigt wurde. Wir nahmen die letzte Fahrt der Standseilbahn zum Gipfel und spazierten auf dem Panoramaweg. Bei einem alten, anscheinend verlassenen Hotel, schien das abendliche Sonnenlicht so schön in in den Gang, ich musste es malen! 40 Minuten waren aber wirklich eine Hektik, ich wäre gerne 3 Stunden davor gesessen. Die letzte Fahrt runter durften wir aber nicht verpassen!

Late in the afternoon, Angelika and I took the ship from Hergiswil to Kehrsiten. I wanted to paint the Bürgenstock. The Hammetschwand Lift was closed, due to the path leading to it, the Felsenweg, crumbling off and falling into the lake. We took the funicular railway to the top, and walked along the Panorama path. By an old, apparently abandoned hotel, the sunlight shone through the walkway so beautifully, I had to paint it! 40 minutes was really very hectic. I would have liked to sit 3 hours infront of it. The final trip down, however, we couldn't miss!

Vielen Dank dem Herrn, der den zwei Angetrunkenen befahl, mich in Ruhe malen zu lassen. Ich war sehr froh darüber. Sorry für all die, denen ich im Weg stand, als Sie aus dem Stadion herausströmten.

My thanks go to the man who commanded the two drunk men to let me paint in peace. I was very glad about it. Sorry for all those whose way I obstructed when they came out of the stadium from the Swinger Fest.

This Sunday ends the Swiss Schwingfest in Aarau. Here is my contribution.
Angelika here, giving a short explaination of what the Schwing ("Swing") wrestling sport is for us non-Swiss folk. Two persons with these special shorts made of sackcloth and leather stand in a large circle of sawdust, and by holding each other on the belt and shorts hem, try to flip the opponent on his back. Wikipedia or a search engine, I am sure, could give a more detailed description. :)

Das ist das Ferien- und Bildungshaus St. Josef in Lungern, Obwalden. Wir fanden diesen Ort, als wir einmal jemanden hierher begleiteten. Als Dankeschön wurden wir in diesem Raum zu mittag eingeladen. Wir sassen am Tisch unten links. Die freundlichen Leute dieses Hotels erlaubten mir heute an diesem zwielichten Tag, nochmals im Speisesaal zu sitzen, malend. Danke Euch! Übrigens, die Kurve ist nicht im Raum, sondern einfach eine gute Methode, das meiste in meinem Blickwinkel auf das Bild zu fassen.

This is the vacation and education center St. Josef in Lungern, Obwalden. We found this place when we escorted a friend from Luzern to Lungern. As a thank-you, she invited us for lunch. We sat at the table in the lower left. The friendly people of this hotel let me sit here on this twilight day to sit again in the dining hall, painting. Thank you! By the way, the curvature is not in the room, it's just a good way to get most in my field of vision into the painting.

Ich wurde im Kloster Engelberg freundlich empfangen und durfte die schwere Wahl zwischen vielen eindrücklichen Orten fällen. Ich hatte eigentlich im Sinn, nur ein Fenster zu malen, um die Aussicht darin gut darzustellen. Ich hatte wohl zu lange keine Innenarchitektur mehr zu malen.

I was warmly welcomed at the Monastery in Engelberg and had the hard choice between many impressive places. Really I wanted to paint a window view, concentrating on the view out. I guess I missed painting inside architecture.

Das erste Mal, als ich nach Dallenwil reiste, traf ich eine freundliche Engländerin, die mir diese Brücke als Sujet empfahl. An jenem Tag malte ich aber dann Bild #021, Steinibach, Dallenwil. Heute begann ich und der Regen gleichzeitig. Dank meiner Regenstaffelei, wurde ich aber vor dem Regen fertig, der dann sehr stark wurde. Die Blitze stimmten mich auch unruhig, so auf freiem Feld.

The first time I went to Dallenwil to do painting #021, Steinibach, Dallenwil, I met a friendly Englishwoman who recommended I paint this bridge instead. I did not, obviously, but remembered her words. Today, I and the rainfall began at the same time. Thankfully, with my new rain-easel I was finished before the rain got too bad. The lightning was making me nervous, out in the open field.

Das ist die obere Bruder Klaus Kapelle in Flüeli-Ranft. Ich freute mich, heute Tiere zu malen. Während ich die Schafe malte, kam der Bauer und führte sie auf eine andere Weide. Zum Gluck hab ich kurz zuvor ein Foto gemacht und konnte sie so trotzdem malen.

This is the upper chapel for Nicholaus of Flüe in Flüeli-Ranft. I looked forward to painting animals today. While I painted these sheep, the farmer came and led them into another meadow. Luckily, I had taken a photo just before and through that was still able to paint them.
